Scenic Photography

Scenic Photography is one that has to do with what happens in/on the scene/stage.

Groups photos of shows, artistic events, music, dance, theater, etc.
Documents and/or narrates moments and sensations of the different arts. Gestures and expressions allow us to get closer and empathize with what we have experienced in situ.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

- Choose high ISO for high exposure speeds.
- Work with bright angles and telephoto lenses.
- 1 vs. 2 camera bodies.
- Fixed focal lenses offer more quality and brightness (usually).
- If the pit is very low with respect to the stage and forces us to take very low-angle photographs, we must consider the use of telephoto lenses to compensate for this.
- Shoot in bursts to try to capture the "moment".
- Ambient/available light vs. Flash. If we decide to use flash, we must consider using 1st pr 2nd curtain sync to generate different sensations.
- Treat to define well the gestures, expressions and movements "already finished" (very important in dance).

The following images are from a gestual play, it had not textual part and the two characters were moving and dancing with the music and the ambient sounds. It was a love story at the beginning but they argued and while she puts on a coat, he has less and less clothes like he was undressing his feelings or something like that. He was suffering and in a  more vulnerable position than her, who she is seems to be much more dominant in the scene. At the end, she removes even the skin from his back while she's crying.

It was so interesting to do this type of photography because you have to capture the moment of the action, and it is difficult because they are in constant movement and if you lose your opportunity they are not going to repeat it for you so you have to put all your attention in the scene and try to tell the story with the images and the people should understand what are you trying to say with them.
