Product Photography

What is product photography?
It is a type of photography that focuses on faithfully presenting the attributes of a given object, such as shape, colour, texture...

What is advertising photography?
It is photography aimed at showing a product or service, in the more attractive way possible, with the objective of guiding the consumer towards its purchase.

Therefore, the product photography for advertising is where we have to represent an object faithfully as well as making it visually appealing.

In this post, I want to explain the idea and the process because I enjoyed so much.

To begin with, Llaollao is a spanish ice cream franchise specialized in frozen yogurt, slushies and milkshakes, and in their website they say that these foods are complete, healthy and natural. I wanted to do the same idea with real food that you find at the greengrocer's but it is obviously not as appetizing so in the tub shown in the pictures we can see broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and radish. In the original photo it is a bit disguting because of the colour of the vegetables, I know.

So, when I had the idea it was just a matter of putting it into action. The photos were taken in a studio with flashes, a camera, a tripod and backgrounds (which I accidentally smudged with syrup, ups). In this type of photography is very important the equipment such as the camera or the tripod because we  will have to do tests until we finde the right one and a good tripod will allow us to maintain the framing characteristics and position.

Well, when I had the original photo taken and I liked the result in relation with that I wanted to do with it, I passed to the final process, the image editing. In photography, editing is fundamental, but in product photography it is practically an obligation.

First of all, I "cleaned" the stains from the bowl and the background to make it as clean and neutral as possible and then, I started to edit the colours of the vegetables, making them more vibrant and eye-catching to attract the public's attention. Maybe if you are walking down the street and you see an ad like this, you would be like: "Are those vegetables? What???" and with the edited colours, it might even be appetising, right?

Once the colour edition of the vegetables was finished, I selected the background and changed the colour of it with a mixed aesthetic between Llaollao and mine. I coloured it pink because the vegetables in the ice cream tub are green, pink and white, the syrup was also pink and Llaollao's corporate colours are green and white so I thought that it would be visually aesthetically pleasing (I was right, I think). With this colour in the background, it seems that the ice cream tub is like in a cloud or something like that.

To finish with the edition, the text had to be included. I first changed the "Frozen yogurt" in the tub to "Frozen vegetables" because we were no longer selling frozen yogurt, and then I had to create a slogan, which it was "Tasty tasty. Healthy healthy", short and to the point. The last thing was to look for the typography as close as possible to the brand's, and I think that it was quite successful.

So this was the process in a nutshell (although it may not seem like it), this was a lot of work but I really liked it because this was all my idea and I had to carry out according to my criteria and my point of view and I really like the final photo.
